2 Corinthians 9:8
And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.
Generous people are empowered people. In today’s text, the Apostle Paul was encouraging the church to be generous and cheerful givers by saying that God would empower and enable them do so by His grace. Most people view grace simply as God’s approval. They picture Him smiling down on them because they’ve been good and not broken any religious rules. The truth is that God’s grace is the very power that Jesus walked in while He was ministering on this earth. When God graces you in the area of giving, He imparts into you His power and ability to not only meet your needs but to take joy in being able to help meet the needs of others as well. Every person is born with the human nature which, by default, is selfish and self serving. But, when you were born again, you chose to put the human nature aside and put on the nature of Jesus. This impossible to do without the active agent of God’s grace being at work in your life. God is saying that if you’ll step out by faith and purpose to be generous in the way you live and interact with those around you, He will give you the strength and ability you need to do it. If you’ll allow Him to, God will, by His grace, keep you from falling into selfishness which ultimately leads to lack. What areas of your life are you most selfish in? Is it your time, your home, your money, or maybe even the very talents He gave you to bring the Kingdom into the lives of those around you? If you’ll take any part of your life that you find selfishness in and submit it to Him, He will generously impart His grace into that area and empower you to live generously through it. – Love and Blessings, Pastor Jeff
