2 Timothy 1:5-8 5 I recall your sincere faith that first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and now, I am convinced, is in you also. 6 Therefore, I remind you to rekindle the gift of God that is in you through the laying on of my hands. 7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but one of power, love, and sound judgment. 8 So don’t be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, or of me his prisoner. Instead, share in suffering for the gospel, relying on the power of God.

As I’ve watched my two boys grow, my biggest desire for them is to know God deeper earlier in life than before I did. One thing I find joyful is when the attributes of God flow from them. It can be kindness, learning to share or even an apology when they know they have done something wrong. On the other hand, we have had many life lessons throughout the years and have struggled to learn the purpose from said lessons. I find myself talking in near parables to help explain why certain actions are inappropriate so they can hopefully gain understanding and I achieve a parenting win. Much like my own life I’ve had to learn a few lessons on repeat that I didn’t want to redo. I would tend to think most of us know the Word or at least the cliché verses that get put on repeat for random scenarios in our life. When we admit we know them but choose an alternative decision that is against what we know, we are telling God that we will do it our way and without His help. This is much like my boys when they choose to be disrespectful or throw an attitude about situations in life. Paul writes to Timothy reminding him what he has learned and to continue doing the will of God. Somewhere along the path, the church he was overseeing changed their thinking. In doing so they had stripped their faith of its power. You can’t believe one scripture and your actions prove otherwise. You give power to what you believe whether it’s wrong or right. Instead of giving fear and anxiety your undivided attention and therefore power, over your life, choose to believe that God is God. Write scriptures down you can put on repeat in your mind so that your mind takes hold of what your heart already knows. Let your actions walk out your faith. Blessings, Sheri
