Luke 10:40
But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.”

In moments of stress and frustration, many people will try to manipulate others through guilt or high pressure tactics to help them. They resort to asking someone else to do their dirty work just like Martha tried to do with Jesus. “Jesus, make her help me.” “Don’t you care?” Everyone has fallen prey to this and many have used these same words to try to pull others into their chaos. Jesus, however, wasn’t going to make Mary a victim of Martha’s choices. Jesus made it clear to Martha that she had made her choice and Mary had made hers. Giving in to Martha’s manipulation would have only enabled more of the same behavior in the future. If you find yourself in a place of overcommitment, rather than trying to manipulate others into bailing you out, ask the Lord for grace to see you through the commitment and then learn from it for future reference. The Lord’s burden is easy. If you find yourself being overwhelmed, ask Him to show you what to put aside and what is truly important. – Love and Blessings, Pastor Jeff.
