Barbara Beeson Sturgeon, 75, passed away on August 27, 2019, at Senior Care of Lake Pointe in Rockwall, TX.  She was born in Sulphur Springs, TX.  She attended high school there and met her husband, Claude T. Sturgeon, while attending high school.  They were married on June 14, 1963, and had one daughter, Robin Sturgeon Abess, in May 1964.

In 1971, the Sturgeon family moved to Commerce, TX, where Barbara worked from her home, typing dissertations for college students at East Texas State University.  She was one of the most requested typists and was very proud of her work.  She continued her typing after the family relocated to Rockwall, TX in 1977.  She retired from typing after many years, but went on to work for the Rockwall County Clerk’s Office for several years, as well as Whitmore Manufacturing.

Barbara loved all animals, but especially her cats, who lived very happy lives.  She enjoyed reading, cross-stitching, and watching Luke Bryan perform.  She also enjoyed several other country music singers.  She was a wonderful daughter, wife, mother and grandmother, and was well loved by her many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward Wayne Beeson and Inez Williams Beeson, both of Sulphur Springs; her husband of 28 years, Claude T. Sturgeon, of Reilly Springs, TX; her aunt, Cleo Williams Browning; and her aunt and uncle, Clyde Williams Irons and John B. Irons.

She is survived by her daughter, Robin Sturgeon Abess; grandson, Caram Wayne Abess; the Abess family (Michael, Lindsay, Mark, Noah, Jean and Alexander); and several cousins, as well as her aunt, Margaret Beeson; and uncle, Finley Beeson.

Barbara will be buried in City Cemetery in Sulphur Springs, TX, after a service at Tapp Funeral Home in Sulphur Springs on 8/31 at 2 p.m.  Visitation will occur on 8/30, from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations are requested for Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge, 239 Turpentine Creek Lane, Eureka Springs, AR.
