Presley Cummins and Sydnee Neal from the Como-Pickton FFA chapter were selected to attend the Experience Alaskan Agriculture Camp in North Pole, Alaska this summer. This is an educational event that focuses on Alaskan culture, agriculture, and natural resources. It is intended to grow students’ awareness of the area and people, including their agriculture education program.

During their time there they will attend hands on workshops to learn culture and bush-craft that highlight the state’s agriculture and natural resources. They will tour various agriculture facilities in the area including a flour mill, muskox farm, reindeer farm and many others. They will also participate in a community service event to help control invasive weeds that effect local Chinook Salmon habitats, while learning about the native wildlife. During this experience they must keep records on what they experience and will be sharing those experiences with the rest of the FFA chapter and the community upon their return.
