Saturday, April 27th
John 11:43-44
43 When he had said these things, he cried out with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out.” 44 The man who had died came out, his hands and feet bound with linen strips, and his face wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Unbind him, and let him go.”
Have you ever stopped to think how silly it was that Jesus had to actually tell people to free Lazarus from the burial wrap that he was covered in? It’s hard to fathom that those witnessing this miracle would just stand there and let Lazarus struggle to move around, but apparently this was the case. Fast forward a couple thousand years and this issue is still something that the Body of Christ deals with today. Maybe not in a physical sense but from the spiritual aspect there are countless people who have received a new life in Christ but have never had anyone come alongside them and help them walk out of the old issues that they are wrapped up in. As a believer, you have the opportunity and the responsibility to encourage new Christians to leave their old lifestyle behind and take up the life that Jesus has given them. Think back to when you were born again. You’ll recall that just because you were a new creation spiritually didn’t mean that you had it all figured out in every other area of life. So many new believers are left to fend for themselves and never taught who the really are in Christ. In other words, no one came to help them out of their grave clothes. Sadly enough many of these people fall back into their old lifestyles and develop a distaste for the Lord and the church. When you see someone struggling in their walk do you stand off to the side and watch or do you jump in and see how you can help them step out of what’s holding them back? You might be the only thing standing between them becoming who the Lord has called them to be and their falling away from Him all together.
