SSHS athletes Autumn Tanton and Landry Tyson have been selected for 5A 2019 Texas Student Athlete of the Year voting. A male and a female athlete will receive $1000.00 scholarship for college.  Athletes are voted on by coaches and one male/female are chosen from each school from each district. Winners are decided by an online vote. People can vote as many times as they want to.  Voting continues until Friday, March 29th at 5:00. Autumn Tanton 
Volleyball accomplishments:  4 Year Letterman, TSWA All-State, District Offensive MVP, 1st Team All-District, and Academic All-State.
Basketball accomplishments: 4 year letterman, District Defensive MVP, 1st Team All-District, Academic All-State.
Autumn has maintained a 4.0 GPA. She is in National Honor Society, Key club, Hopkins County Chamber of Commerce Leadership Program, and Dare to Dream.
Autumn will continue her volleyball career at Oklahoma Wesleyan University in the fall.  Her future plans are to become a physical therapist.

 

Landry Tyson is a senior at Sulphur Springs High School where he is a member of the National Honor Society – Gladys Alexander Chapter. He is an accomplished athlete; lettering in football and track at SSHS. Landry has received multiple district honors in both sports and has decided to continue his efforts in football at the college level. He has been involved in leadership roles within the school and community which include Dare to Dream, Shannon Oaks Youth Group, and he is part of the Hopkins County Chamber of Commerce Leadership Program. Landry is excited about attending Texas A&M – Commerce where he will pursue a degree in Kinesiology.
